The Beach Boys 2018 Christmas Tour: Mike Love Vs. Brian Wilson

There's always been a bit of drama between The Beach Boys co-founders Mike Love and Brian Wilson, but they've taken things to the next level for the holidays.

The cousins have each embarked on their own holiday tours, both performing various hits from their Beach Boys days, as well as their own Christmas material.

Love and his iteration of The Beach Boys are spreading Christmas cheer in their Reason for the Season Christmas Tour, in support of Love's solo album of the same name.

Reason for the Season includes holiday favorites “Away in a Manger,” “Oh Come All Ye Faithful," “Finally It’s Christmas” and, of course, "Little St. Nick."

The 22-date jaunt kicked off November 16th in Chattanooga, Tennessee and is expected to wrap up December 30th in Denver, Colorado before the band hits the road again in the New Year.

The album and tour features support from longtime collaborators as well as the Hanson brothers– Isaac, Taylor and Zac.

“What is so special about this collection of songs is that they both harken back to the wonder of childhood and family, but also feel very relevant and exciting for a new season of listening," Love said.

"It’s a such a joy to create this music with my actual family and my family of collaborators, Sam, Steve, Michael Lloyd, Scott, and Hanson. We’re looking forward to being part of the soundtrack of many holiday seasons to come.”

The Beach Boys have been playing a 40-ish song set, with songs ranging from their Christmas albums to Surfer Girl to Pet Sounds.

Fans have heard classics like "Little Deuce Coupe," "Kokomo" and "California Girls" as well as holiday covers of "White Christmas," "Frosty the Snowman" and "I'll Be Home For Christmas."

Wilson, on the other hand, has teamed up with fellow Beach Boy co-founder Al Jardine and former Beach Boy Blondie Chaplin for his OWN holiday tour, supporting his solo Christmas album as well as The Beach Boys' beloved 1964 holiday album, which he plays in full.

Wilson's tour kicked off November 28th in Minneapolis, Minnesota and wraps on December 23rd in Reno, Nevada.

“Brian came up with some really wonderful little ditties that we sprinkled throughout the album that gave it some newness and that made it a classic,” Jardine said about the album's live revamp.

“His gift for arranging is amazing...Everyone was gung ho and professional and, of course, we were unstoppable, so we were up to the challenge, I think.”

Like Love's sets, fans hear classic Beach Boys hits like "Fun, Fun, Fun," "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "Little St. Nick" as well as his own Christmas songs, "Christmassy," "On Christmas Day" and "What I Really Want For Christmas." Jardine and Chaplin take over a few songs on vocals.
