Rolling Stones Play 25 Songs on Keith's Birthday This Day in 1981

Keith Richards is a name that needs no introduction. The legendary guitarist and founding member of one of the most iconic bands of all time, The Rolling Stones, is celebrating his 75th birthday today.

Born in 1943 to working class parents, the young Richards was introduced to the guitar by his grandfather, at which point he never looked back. Inspired by artists like Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters, Richards and childhood friend Mick Jagger formed an amateur band, with neither knowing the monumental meaning of this decision and the impact their band would have on music and culture as a whole.

The Rolling Stones revolutionized popular music, with their brand of hard, unabashed rock becoming major pioneering influences of rock n' roll. Keith Richards has become an icon, ranked the fourth greatest guitarist of all time. He has been described as the creator of "rock's greatest single body of riffs" on guitar. His songs, co-written with Jagger, have appeared in the "Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.
