Incubus Wrap "Make Yourself" Anniversary Tour, Forty Shows Later

Believe it or not, rock band Incubus have been on tour since the beginning of September. Fortunately, after hitting nearly forty cities across North America, the California natives have officially wrapped on their 20 Years of Make Yourself and Beyond Tour.

As the tour name directly implies, the recent fall tour launched in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their third studio album Make Yourself (1999). Often regarded as their most critically acclaimed piece, Make Yourself also stands as their best-selling album since the band’s formation in 1991.

Of course, the latter half of the 2019 fall tour’s title implies that this leg wasn’t only put on in succession of the album celebration, but was also created to recognize their music “beyond” the 1999 record. In fact, Incubus have released eight full-studio albums since 1995 and they were sure to make note of that throughout the tour.

Unfortunately, the last show of the tour was postponed after vocalist Brandon Boyd contracted a sinus infection. And while the band has promised to return to Myrtle Beach as soon as possible, their December 6 concert in Charlotte effectively served as the final date of the tour.

Throughout the tour, Incubus have kept the setlist relatively consistent. But what else would you expect when they are committed to playing a full album? That’s right, the guys played Make Yourself in its entirety in every city on their fall tour. From opening tracks “Privilege,” “Nowhere Fast” and “Consequence” to closers like “I Miss You,” “Pardon Me” and “Out from Under,” the Grammy-nominated band seldom failed to miss a beat when it came to the first act of their show.

As if playing the entire album wasn’t enough, Incubus welcomed a special guest at a few shows as well. Performing the hit song “Battlestar Scralatchtica” off of Make Yourself, DJ Chris Kilmore invited surprise artist Cut Chemist to help out in Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.

The latter half of every show was organized to celebrate the “And Beyond” portion of the show and included an ever-changing list of songs off of all eight studio albums. At the tour wrap in Charlotte, the second act included “Sick Sad Little World” off of A Crow Left of the Murder… (2004), “Are You In” off of Morning View (2001) and “No Fun” off of 8 (2017).

While their fall tour has officially come to an end, Incubus have one future date booked at Hellfest in France next summer. However, with the cancellation of their Raleigh and Myrtle Beach shows just this past weekend, we imagine there may be a date or two added in the coming months.
