David Byrne is planning to get “ambitious” with his new tour next year. The singer tweeted, “I’m excited. This is the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense, so fingers crossed.” Stop Making Sense is a 1984 Talking Heads’ concert film captured by director Jonathan Demme at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre the previous year. The latest tour announcement will see Byrne head out on a short East Coast trek beginning on March 3 in Red Bank, New Jersey. The string of shows will wrap up in a week’s time in Kingston, New York at Ulster Performing Arts Center on March 10.
The “Psycho Killer” singer also described a grand visual approach for his upcoming shows, which will center on his group using mobile instruments. “With everyone mobile, I realized the stage could be completely clear. If we could have the monitors in our ears, the amps off-stage and the lights up high, then we had the possibility of a completely empty space,” he told Brooklyn Vegan. A recent news post on the musician’s website noted that these new dates will feature Talking Heads hits and music from his forthcoming record (an exact release date and title have yet to be announced). Byrne last toured in 2013 with St. Vincent in support of their joint effort, Love This Giant.
After the week of gigs, Byrne’s itinerary will continue with previously scheduled festival appearances including Lollapalooza Chile, Argentina, Brasil, and Opener’ Festival. Tickets for Byrne's 2018 tour dates will go on sale December 15 More information is available on his website.
