Setlist Predictions for My Chemical Romance's 2019 Reunion Show!

It’s still a bit surreal that My Chemical Romance is officially reuniting, right?

In exactly one month, the band will play their first live show together since 2012 at LA’s Shrine Expo Hall. To give you an idea of how much time has passed since they were on stage together, My Chem’s last show was at the now-defunct Bamboozle festival where they played a relatively short 12 song setlist.

It’s hard to guess exactly what to expect from MCR in 2019. That isn’t surprising though, the band has a history of being a bit unexpected. From completely making themselves over into The Black Parade to experimenting with dance-pop and bright colors for Danger Days, to dropping the series of messier punk tracks for Conventional Weapons, you never quite knew what you were getting from the band sonically or visually.

With that said, here’s our best guess at five tracks My Chemical Romance will be playing on their first night back.

"Thank You For the Venom" -

This is quintessential My Chem, so it’s not exactly risky to predict this song will make the setlist. But here’s where it gets a bit more interesting: I’m predicting this is the band’s first song of the night. It was their opening song for several years and several tours, and there’s something appropriate about the band returning with the burst of sound that opens this track.

"Our Lady Of Sorrows" -

For much of their career MCR steered clear of playing songs from their debut album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. But near the end of their time together they were easing up on that policy, and in fact played this song at the 2012 Bamboozle set. Of all the possible songs to make the cut from Bullets, this is the one.

"The Kids From Yesterday" -

If there’s a more appropriate song for MCR in 2019, it’s hard for me to think of one. This was reportedly the band’s favorite track from Danger Days and it’s the My Chem signature mix of uplifting and heartbreaking at the same time. It’s about growing up and time passing and if it’s the last song they ever play in concert it’ll only be too appropriate.

"Boy Division" -

This is the longest shot in this list, but hear me out. This is a track from Conventional Weapons, songs that the band recorded before Danger Days but released afterwards as a series of singles. My Chem has never played it live, which is what makes it the least likely MCR prediction on this list, but with their returning show being in LA it feels like they shouldn’t pass up the chance to live debut a track with the lyrics “Say a prayer for California.”

"Cake By The Ocean" (DNCE cover) -

Okay, maybe this one is a bigger leap than Boy Division but again, stay with me. In July 2019, Joe Jonas infamously mentioned in an interview that My Chemical Romance was rehearsing together again. Immediately Frank Iero squashed the rumors and shot back at Jonas that “... people aren’t gonna forget that you’re a Disney band, bro.”

But Joe was RIGHT. And MCR has a history of breaking out some interesting covers. And c’mon, tell me you don’t want to hear what My Chemical Romance can do with that song.

How many of these will come true? Will My Chemical Romance cover The Jonas Brothers? We won't know until the big night, December 20. And we've waited this long, we can wait a few more weeks.

Probably.
