Is it a Farewell? Fleetwood Mac End Year-Long Tour in Las Vegas

Who could think of a better city to end a year-long world tour than the Sin City itself. That’s right, Fleetwood Mac has finally wrapped on their An Evening with Fleetwood Mac Tour in Las Vegas. After nearly ninety shows across the globe, Mick Fleetwood (drums), John McVie (bass), Stevie Nicks (vocals), Christine McVie (keyboard & vocals), Mike Campbell (guitar) and Neil Finn (guitar & vocals) are finally taking a break from touring… for now.

Originally rumored to be a farewell tour, An Evening with Fleetwood Mac has turned into more of a question mark in regard to the band’s status. As the group continues to perform at a pristine level, it’s hard to imagine they would throw in the towel just yet.

Of course, these premature farewell rumors and announcements are nothing new in the world of music. The classic rock generation is slowly coming to a head with the reality of aging, yet other than icons like Kiss, Paul Simon and Elton John, there haven’t been too many concrete farewells just yet. I mean, even Elton is taking almost three years to truly say goodbye.

So what does the future hold for the Fleetwood Mac? Unfortunately, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers don't even have an answer for that. When asked about the tour back in 2018, Christine McVie had few concrete things to say about the band’s future.

"The 2018 tour is supposed to be a farewell tour, but you take farewell tours one at a time. Somehow we always come together, this unit. We can feel it ourselves."

However, before we get too ahead of the curve, let’s ground ourselves in the present as the London and Los Angeles natives have just completed one of their greatest tours since their formation in the late 1960s.

Backed by a simple, yet somehow perfectly Fleetwood Mac production featuring an oversized backdrop monitor, an overhead chandelier and themed projections, Stevie Nicks and company took their semi-final bow knowing everything was perfect at T-Mobile Arena.

From setlist to performances, it was as if the crowd was transported back to the height of a timeless group that continues to shine through another decade.

Throughout the entirety of the tour, Fleetwood Mac has kept the setlist virtually the same every night, touching upon their full repertoire of music since their formation. Not surprisingly, the two albums they pulled from the most were Rumours (1977) and Fleetwood Mac (1975) respectively.

Opening their final show at T-Mobile Arena with the classic hit “The Chain,” the group quickly set the tone for a night of nostalgia, featuring polished performances and undeniable chemistry.

As the night progressed, the rock legends threw in hit after hit off of their self-titled album including “Say You Love Me,” “Rhiannon,” “World Turning” and “Landslide.”

To break up the their two best-selling albums, the band also touched on a few tracks off of Tango in the Night (1987) and Mirage (1982), fusing some 1980s vibes into the show. From “Little Lies” and “Everywhere” to “Gypsy” and “Hold Me,” Fleetwood Mac simply proved over and over again that their music is indeed timeless.

Reverting back to Rumours following the success of the other records on the setlist, Fleetwood Mac performed extended versions of “You Make Loving Fun,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Go Your Own Way” to end off the main set.

Following a premature goodbye, the band wound up back on stage to perform a two-song encore featuring another Rumours favorite, “Don’t Stop, along with a touching tribute to their good friend and fellow performer Tom Petty with a rendition of “Free Fallin’.” With Petty’s former touring member Mike Campbell at center stage, Fleetwood Mac were sure to do the song justice in honor of the great rock pioneer.

So is this really the end of an unbelievable story or is it simply the close of another chapter? Either way, Fleetwood Mac can take a break knowing they did everything they could to honor their own legacy.
