Elvis Costello Wraps 2019 U.S. Just Trust Tour in Prep for the UK

After bringing their 2019 tour across the U.S., Elvis Costello & The Imposters have finally wrapped on their 2019 Just Trust Tour. Hitting just over twenty cities since the kickoff on October 23, the New Wave legends are taking advantage of much needed downtime just in time for the holidays.

However, before we dwell on the past, it’s important to note that Costello has announced a UK leg of the Just Trust Tour set to kickoff at the end of February 2020. And with the recent previous success of the same U.S. tour, it’s only expected that the energy will carry over into this new run. A three month break also helps.

So what’s the expectation moving forward into 2020? Well, let’s take a quick look back at this recent tour to get a glimpse into what the UK can expect on Elvis Costello & The Imposters' Just Trust Tour.

Officially wrapping in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 26, the Just Trust Tour ended just as it started— unpredictable. But don’t let that deter you from the show. It was unpredictably entertaining.

Known for frequently changing the set throughout their tours, Elvis Costello & The Imposters carried on with that same trend on this U.S. trek. They were even so kind as to hint at that very fluctuation as they named the tour the Just Trust Tour to encourage fans to “just trust [them]” when it comes to constructing a setlist each night. And while that may mean fans shouldn’t always expect to hear their favorite song on every date, the whole point of the show is to trust Costello and company in that they will be sure to entertain regardless.

For the tour wrap in Milwaukee, Costello followed through with his promise, playing a twenty-three song set packed with new hits and deep cuts alike. Alongside a dazzling light display and narrative original graphics displayed on a large backdrop monitor, the band was sure to put on a show worth remembering on the last night of this run.

Throughout the tour, there have been a few staple hits that Elvis Costello & The Imposters have rarely axed from the setlist from night-to-night and it was no different in Milwaukee. Some of these principle songs include “Strict Time,” “Clubland,” “Green Shirt,” “Accidents Will Happen,” “Watching the Detectives” and “A Face in the Crowd.”

On the other hand, there have also been a list of unique songs or deep cuts that sometimes ran as one-offs or seldom performed tracks that would only make the set one or two times. In Milwaukee, these songs included “Lip Service,” “Country Darkness,” “Uncomplicated” and “Suit of Lights.”

While encores weren’t consistently utilized throughout the tour, how could you expect Costello to go out on any other account? Returning to the stage after the main set for a six-song encore, Elvis Costello & The Imposters performed tantalizing versions of “From a Whisper to a Scream,” “Everyday I Write the Book,” “Pump It Up,” “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding,” “Slow Down” and “Alison,” before a sold-out Wisconsin crowd.
