Bruce Springsteen Plays Surprise Benefit in Boston w/ 22 Song Set

Bruce Springsteen turned up at New Jersey’s Stone Pony club this weekend, rolling out a 22-song setlist as a benefit for Boston College. There were less than 500 in attendance for the surprise Saturday night show.

Of course, playing two hours isn’t a huge deal for The Boss, given the expanse of his catalog and his excellent physical health, but the intimate setting of such a small venue made it special. As shown in the fan videos, there wasn't a bad seat in the house. This is the 4th benefit he’s played for Boston College, where his oldest son Evan graduated from in 2012.

The set included a handful of covers and closed (no encore needed) with a solo acoustic performance of his second most-played song, “Thunder Road.” Peep the setlist and some fan-filmed videos below:

Also, as a bit of Setlist History, on this day in 1975, Bruce made his London debut. The 16-song set, professionally recorded for his 4th live album, took place at the Hammersmith Odeon as part of a short European Born to Run mini tour. The album was released in 2005 as part of the Born to Run 30th Anniversary Edition.

Take a look at that setlist:

In addition to the tour's namesake and "Born to Run," "Rosalita" and "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" remain setlist staples to this day.

Bruce's next gig is Sting's 30th Annual Rainforest Fund benefit on December 9th. His performance before this surprise set was a Stand Up for Heroes benefit earlier this month. Read about that here.

Springsteen has no scheduled tour dates at this time, but has gone on record saying that there WILL be a run with the E Street Band in 2020, along with a new full length album, which he's already written material for. Their last full tour was in 2016-2017 and their last album was 2014's High Hopes. Bring it, Bruce.
