Tori Amos Makes Live Debuts + Plays Covers in Oakland

Singer-songwriter-pianist Tori Amos made her major label debut with the solo album Little Earthquakes, back in 1992. Needless to say, she hasn’t rested much since. In September, the alternative-pop singer released her fifteenth record called Native Invader. The album is the singer-songwriter's first since 2014's Unrepentant Geraldines. Touring behind her latest oeuvre, Amos performs solo, with a keyboard, piano, percussion, and of course, her vocals. During the “Cornflake Girl” singer’s live performances, she’s been known for extending the duration to many of her songs. At her Paramount Theatre gig in Oakland on Sunday, the baroque pop singer explored deep cuts from albums like 1994’s Under the Pink and 1998’s From the Choirgirl Hotel and played a pair of covers as well as made a live and tour debut.

Tori Amos - "Wrapped Around Your Finger" (Live The Police cover)

Surprises from Amos came about when she covered Bette Midler’s “The Rose” and then a harrowing rendition of The Police’s classic song, “Wrapped Around Your Finger,” off their 1983 album, Synchronicity. Early on, Amos made her Native Invader tour debut with 2003’s “Angels,” which is rarely performed by the singer. According to our records, the “Crucify” singer had only performed "Angels" twice in 2005 and the last time at a show back in November 2011. The tune is found on 2003’s A Tori Amos Collection: Tales of a Librarian. During the four-song encore, Amos played an older tune that according to her setlist.fm history, she had never performed live before. The song was “Posse Bonus,” which appeared on her 2007 album, American Doll Posse. Amos concluded the evening with “Raspberry Swirl,” coming off her From the Choirgirl Hotel album.
