Setlist Playlist: Exploring Songs on Tool's Fear Inoculum Tour

Prog metal rockers Tool are back on the road, touring in support of their long-awaited fifth studio album, Fear Inoculum.

Fans were eagerly anticipating the album's release, following the band's buzz earlier in the summer after they uploaded their entire catalog to streaming platforms for the first time. The album marks the Tool's first album in 13 years.

Members Maynard James Keenan (vocals), Danny Carey (drums), Adam Jones (guitar) and Justin Chancellor (bass) kicked off their North American tour October 15 at the Pepsi Center in Denver (read our opening night recap here!) and are scheduled to wrap things up November 25 at Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C.

"Fear Inoculum"

The title track and lead single of Tool's fifth studio album was the first glimpse at new Tool material since the band released 2006's 10,000 Days. The band dropped the song August 7 ahead of the new album's August 30 release date.

Upon its initial debut, "Fear Inoculum" became the longest song ever to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, clocking in at 10 minutes and 20 seconds. It was also the band's first entry on the charts since 2001's "Schism."

"Pneuma"

"Pneuma" – not to be confused with "pneumonia" – is an ancient Greek word, meaning "breathe" or "spirit."

Fans speculate the meaning of the song has some correlation to the yogic tradition, with sitar and goblet drum sounds and lyrics like "Wake up remember, we are born of one breath, one word. We are all one spark, sun becoming."

Tool debuted this track at this year's Aftershock Festival.

"Chocolate Chip Trip"

One of Fear Inoculum's standout instrumental tracks, "Chocolate Chip Trip" has actually been around for a while. According to our Setlist data, the song has been played 45 times since making its January 16, 2016 debut.

Drummer Danny Carey completed one of the song's most difficult parts while the rest of the band was taking a break during the recording process.

"Stinkfist"

This song is the first track on the band's 1996 sophomore effort, Ænima.

MTV thought the title was too raunchy to air, so when they played the music video, it was titled "Track 1." It is Tool's most-played song live, having been performed 742 times since its 1994 debut.
