Happy 42nd Birthday to "Gravity" Crooner John Mayer

It may be hard to believe, but the 2000's poster boy for romance is turning 42 today! The multi-talented John Mayer is celebrating his birthday with thousands of fans as he performs in Dublin on his World Tour 2019. With a career that spans almost 20 years, Mayer has been a fixture in nearly all genres; from pop to blues to good ol' fashioned rock n' roll. And as the singer gears up for his next upcoming tour with Dead and Company, it begs the question, what can't he do?

Mayer was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut to parents who were heavily in the education system; his father was a high school principal and his mother was a middle school teacher. However, at an early age, it was easy to see that Mayer's path had a different tune to it (pun intended). He fell in love with music and began creating his own, influenced by blues legends such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B King, and enrolled in Berklee College of Music before dropping out to kickstart his own career.

The singer-songwriter's career took off in the early aughts with his debut album Room for Squares, and the mega-hit off of the album, "Your Body is a Wonderland" won Mayer his first Grammy. After the hit off of his first album, Mayer took on his persona as a popstar, churning out hit after hit, but he was never satisfied with just staying in one lane.

In the mid-2000s, he experimented with the John Mayer Trio, going back to a more blues and rock style, releasing a live album called Try! which was also nominated for a Grammy. Mayer continued his solo success with Continuum and the hits "Gravity" and "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room," which also represented a shift in Mayer's focus and style, going away from the pop-rock that made him famous but showing that he could still garner critical and popular acclaim with blues.

"I believe in blues, and I believe that it’s been misrepresented...It just needs somebody to take that blues fire and put it into a capsule that a lot of people can get into . . . "

After taking a brief hiatus, Mayer came back in the mid-teens, releasing new music and a new shift in style with his folk-inspired album Paradise Valley. In 2015, he united the remaining members of the iconic rock group The Grateful Dead to form Dead and Company, touring and performing hits from the classic rock group's plethora of music. Mayer's collaboration as part of Dead and Co. has ushered a greater appreciation for the classic band as well as for Mayer, proving that his talents are multi-dimensional to say the least.

2019 has been a big year for Mayer, with the release of his new single "Carry Me Away" and wrapping up one tour and starting another, both as a solo artist and with Dead and Co. With so many projects lined up for him and a history of genre-breaking and defining music, it is needless to say that John Mayer isn't going anywhere.

So, let's help wish him a happy birthday by checking out where he IS going to be soon, full tour dates below! It's also his Dead bandmate Bob Weir's birthday as well! A great day of celebration in the Dead world!
