Phish Played 23-Song Set on Trey Anastasio's Birthday in 1991

Happy Birthday to iconic band leader of Phish, Trey Anastasio. The legendary jam band musician turns 56 years old today, September 30th. In honor of his birthday, today's Setlist History takes us back to Anastasio's birthday in 1991, when Phish played at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio as part of their Fall 1991 Tour.

The 23-song setlist (divided between two sets) featured a generous preview of their third studio album, 1992's A Picture of Nectar. They opened the first set with "Chalk Dust Torture" and performed "Stash" and "Llama" in between early Phish-era tracks like "Foam," "Fly Famous Mockingbird" and "Sparkle."

The second set feature many more new songs after opening up with "Possum." They weaved in "Cavern," "Tweezer," "The Mango Song," and "The Landlady" before ending the set on a "Tweezer" reprise. That night, fans got treated to a four-song encore full of covers, starting with Argent's "Hold Your Head Up" and wrapping up on "Good Times Bad Times" by Led Zeppelin.
