The Rolling Stones Wrap No Filter Tour Alongside Hurricane Dorian

It’s been a hectic past seventy-two hours for The Rolling Stones. With Hurricane Dorian barreling towards the Atlantic coast, the rock legends were forced to move up their Miami show to avoid any potential production risks with the predicted rain and winds in the area over the weekend. But this wasn’t just any show, this was the final date on The Stones’ 2019 U.S. No Filter Tour.

With a sold-out crowd of nearly fifty-thousand expected to attend the show on its originally scheduled date (August 31), you can imagine the disappointment of some fans who were traveling to the show. However, The Stones’ team handled the situation perfectly, honoring previous tickets and providing all of the necessary reasons for the sudden change.

Ironically, the switch didn’t seem to affect attendance as nearly every seat appeared to be filled at the stadium on Saturday. Similarly, the band also appeared unaffected as Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts gave fans a proper farewell (for now) as they powered through a night of wind, rain, and powerful rock and roll.

After a brief rain delay The Stones took the stage for what would be a two-hour long production. From the massive monitors that could be seen from space to the firework display capable of dethroning Disneyland, The Stones were prepared to bring out all the stops for their tour finale.

As with every show thus far on their No Filter tour, the leaders of the British Invasion kept the Miami audience on their toes as they rolled out a fresh setlist that differed from every city thus far. Check out the complete setlist here!

Opening with “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” the guys quickly gained their footing as they battled the elements. Luckily, those elements consisted mainly of wind… for now. They continued with hits like “It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It),” “Tumbling Dice” and “Out of Control” before playing the audience’s choice for the night, “Under My Thumb.” At every city stop, fans had the opportunity to vote online for the song they wanted to hear at that city’s show and it was no different at the Miami stop, even with the date change.

As Ronnie stole the stage displaying his majestic guitar skills, Mick was sure to take over the spotlight, showing off his dance moves down the catwalk, never mind his unmistakable voice. Ending off the first set with an extended version of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” the guys made their way to the end of the catwalk for a somewhat brief acoustic moment featuring “Sweet Virginia” and “Dead Flowers.” Talk about a perfect break to calm the storm — literally.

Returning back to the main stage, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers jumped right back into their blues rock roots with “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Honky Tonk Women” as Keith stole is rightful reign from Ronnie, proudly taking over lead guitar and even vocals at times.

Just as the wind picked up, so did the band with hits like “You Got The Silver,” “Paint It Black,” “Midnight Rambler” and “Start Me Up” before diving into the final song of their set, “Brown Sugar.” After a guitar and horns-filled jam session, the song wrapped as did the band as they walked off stage following a premature goodbye.

Luckily, despite the inclement weather, The Stones made their way back to stage for a two-song encore. As the band opened with “Gimme Shelter,” Mick sang the first line of the hit — “Oh, a storm is threat'ning my very life today” — and just like that, fate decided to make an appearance as the clouds opened and rain began to pour down over a rocking Miami crowd.

Yet, as expected, Mick and company pushed through, performing the rest of the encore with ease. They ended with a ten-minute rendition of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” as fireworks lit up the dreary sky above them. The Stones were not going to let the darkness ruin the night.

Considering The Rolling Stones have taken very little time off in recent years, we can’t imagine this would be the true Stones finale. Having already faced numerous challenges at the start of this tour, the classic rock pioneers don't seem to be letting up anytime soon and we're quite thankful for that. Either way, what an expected perfect ending to a wild 2019 No Filter Tour.
