The charitable, legendary, and prolific rocker Neil Young headlined another charity concert this pass weekend on September 14th in Lake Hughes, California at a spot called Painted Turtle Camp. The concert, dubbed Harvest Moon: A Gathering, also featured performances by Father John Misty and Norah Jones. It supported both The Bridge School charity and The Painted Turtle, which allows children with serious medical conditions to attend a special summer camp free of charge.
“Included with each ticket is an all-star celebrity chef picnic cooked and served by Southern California’s top chefs,” read an announcement, “and a beer and wine tasting from select California Breweries and Wineries.”
Young performed a 15-song setlist, 14 acoustically, and sandwiched new Neil Young and Crazy Horse songs between staple solo tracks like "Sugar Mountain," "Heart of Gold," "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," "Tell Me Why" and Buffalo Springfield's "I Am a Child."
He performed four new songs which are set to appear on NYCH's upcoming album Colorado, which drops October 25th. Toward the end of the set, Young dusted off Tonight's the Night's "New Mama" for the first time since 1977, he prefaced it by saying:
“All these places start off with kids. Kids make it happen and families slowly realize how real it is and they realize they have nowhere to go. Then they find a place like this and a place like the Bridge School. That’s why it’s so important because it’s all about those little kids and their eyes looking at you.”
