Encore Interview: Shinedown Talks Live Shows + Fall 2019 Tour

We really enjoyed having American rockers Shinedown in our studio for an episode of Tour Update this past summer. So much so, we felt like the two minute clip left a lot of the interview on the cutting room floor and we just had to share with you more of the interview!

Check out some of the other highlights from our interview with Shinedown below!

What's one of your favorite things about playing a live show?

The touring with Shinedown never ceases to amaze me because of the fan base, especially with this album. I have a thing every night when we go on stage after the second song, it’s kind of like an icebreaker with the audience. I’ll ask them if it’s their first time seeing the band to raise their hand, the beautiful thing about that is about 70% - 80% of the people still raise their hands so it always tells us that the audience is growing, not just in North America but globally. I always make sure that after I ask them, I tell them “look to their left and look to the right, you may not know the person next to you but we’re gonna change that right now so everybody turn to your neighbor and high five, shake hands, say welcome to the show, nice to have you. It’s funny and kind of beautiful at the same time to kinda watch the audience realize at that point that they can just have fun and let go, not feel awkward around each other.

What do you want fans to take away from the album, Attention Attention?

Attention Attention is a story album, because it’s about everybody. Anyone from all walks of life can find something in the album that relates to their life, doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman, younger or older, color of skin is irrelevant, your religion is up to you, it’s [Attention, Attention] diversity.

You're taking Papa Roach on the road with you this fall, what prompted a repeat run with the band?

With Papa Roach, we’ve known them for quite a while and they don’t phone anything in. They are constantly evolving their sound, I mean it’s always Roach, it’s always Papa, you can’t mistake Jacoby’s voice, there’s a style with what they all bring to the table. One of the things about Papa Roach is that you can put them on in broad daylight and they will just bring the house down.
