Setlist History: Iggy Pop Debuts "Lust for Life" Live

James Newell Osterberg Jr. Who the heck is that? He's the punkest guy you know. You may know him by the name of Iggy Pop, or perhaps the Godfather of Punk. He's the influential, wailing frontman of proto-punk group The Stooges, making iconic hits that have influenced legions of bands in the preceding years and also make for fabulous covers such like "Search and Destroy" and "I Wanna Be Your Dog."

Before Iggy Pop became renowned for his wild and unpredictable stage antics, the icon and his best friend, a guy by the name of David Bowie, moved to Berlin, Germany where Iggy signed to RCA Records and him and Bowie wrote two songs you MAY have heard of: "The Idiot" and "Lust for Life."

Iggy Pop - "Lust For Life"

Iggy Pop workshopped these tracks on the stage for the very first time on this day (September 12) in 1977 at Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. He started the night with a live debut of "Sixteen" before playing the epochal "Lust for Life" for the first time ever. The 9-track setlist included two more live debuts, "Neighborhood Threat" and "Fall in Love With Me." All of the new songs were off of his second studio album Lust for Life, which had only been released a couple weeks prior.

The Stooges had already been a band for a while by this time, so Iggy was not new to the stage and already had a following. This particular performance included two Stooges cuts: "I Got a Right" and "Shake Appeal." He also played a song off his debut solo album, one we all know and love - "The Passenger." Check the complete setlist below.

Iggy Pop

It's magical that all these songs are still coveted to this day. Iggy Pop is a timeless punk god that will always have a strong influence on the rock 'n' roll music scene. The 75-year-old legend still tours to this day, complete with outrageous stage antics and all.
