Paul McCartney performed an exclusive “secret show” in New York City Friday night to promote his new solo album Egypt Station, his first solo project in five years.
The concert was originally announced on his website, but he didn’t reveal the location until he dropped a subtle hint during his “Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” performance on Thursday, where he cryptically said, “Album is called Egypt Station. Clue there, station. Going to be grand!”
The 8 p.m. performance was held at Vanderbilt Hall, across from the Grand Northern Food Hall at Grand Central Station.
There were a few clues leading up to the show: special edition MetroCards were sold at Grand Central on Friday, causing long lines. Fans started waiting around in hopes to get into the concert, but only 300 lucky fans got tickets. Among the concertgoers were Bon Jovi, Kate Moss, Meryl Streep and Chris Rock.
Fans who couldn’t get into the show could watch a livestream from McCartney’s YouTube channel.
McCartney played only a couple tracks from the new album, as well as Beatles, Wings, and other solo classics. Check out the entire setlist below.
McCartney also announced a few more dates for his 2019 Freshen Up Tour, adding shows in New Orleans, Phoenix and Fort Wayne.
