Yo La Tengo Played 2 Socially Distanced Sets at MASS MoCA

Yo La Tengo gave some lucky fans a sense of normalcy over the weekend with two intimidate, socially distanced concerts.

The trio performed on an elevated balcony at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art for two nights on August 7th and 8th, and fans brought their own lawn chairs that they planted in designated squares marked on the ground to keep them safely distanced from other people.

Each night was sold out and allowed about 100 people. The first night carried a 20-song setlist that lifted off with "Big Day Coming." The set was sprawling with cuts off their extensive catalog, and woven together with YLT-style covers like "Wanted Man" by Bob Dylan, "If I Ever Was a Child" by Wilco, "Smile a Little Smile for Me" by The Flying Machine, and more.

Embedded content is no longer available.

Highlights from the set included "Forever," "Double Dare," "Stockholm Syndrome" and "Moby Octopad." They encored with two more covers, atypical of any YLT set, closing out the night with "Griselda" by The Holy Modal Rounders.

Night two's 21-song set fired right off the bat with a cover of "Looney Tunes" theme song. In between other covers they did some of their most beloved songs like "Shades of Blue," "I'll Be Around," "Autumn Sweater," and main set closer "Our Way to Fall." For the encore, they did three covers, including "Bottled Up" by DEVO and concert ender "I Found a Reason" by The Velvet Underground.
