What tour was R.E.M. on at the time of the festival?

In 1999, the band was on their Up Tour, touring behind their 1998 album of the same name.

Which stage did they play on?

The giant Pyramid Stage! They played after bands like Blondie, Bush and Hole.

“Hole did such a great set, I was like — I’ve got to ramp this up, I’ve got to be great. I think it was maybe a moment for R.E.M. and the U.K. where we had kind of been forgotten or pushed aside by younger bands, and that was a particular moment at Glastonbury where I think we pulled ourselves back to the front of the line and actually proved, this is what we’re capable of." - Michael Stipe

What song do they open with?

"Lotus."

And the closing song?

"Man on the Moon."

What hit songs did they perform?

You'll get to see them play fan favorites like "Daysleeper," "The One I Love," "Losing My Religion," and "Everybody Hurts."

Do they do an encore?

Yes! They come back to encore FIVE songs. It fires off with Mills and Stipe doing "Why Not Smile."

What is the encore finale?

The last song of the night is one of their most popular hits, you know, the one that seems fitting for the theme song of 2020 - "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)".
