Setlist Highlights From John Mayer's 2019 North American Tour!

Fresh off his recent tour with Dead & Company, singer/songwriter John Mayer officially kicked off his summer tour back on July 20th in Albany, New York. With just a few shows in, Mayer has officially mastered keeping audiences on their toes with his unique setlists each night and his specifically designed stage production.

Mayer has always taken his creative endeavors to the next level, but now as a solidified musical stalwart he understands what it means to fully engage fans in an era where technology is the solution to instant gratification. The "New Light" singer took to Instagram to give fans a snippet into his stage production explaining, "The idea for the stage set this tour was to create something naturally beautiful" with hues of bright colors paired with layers of paper that give your eye the optical illusion of dimension.

Being that this was his first solo tour since 2017's The Search For Everything World Tour, Mayer took note from his Dead & Company bandmates and scrapped an opening act. Instead, he has since stretched his set into a whopping (and insanely gratifying) 2 1/2 hour show!

With that much time on his hands, that gives Mayer plenty of time to interact with the audience when the occasion calls for it. During his show in Philadelphia on July 22nd, Mayer took a few minutes out of his set to unveil an honorary mention to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird." No, he did not perform the iconic hit but instead penned an ode to a fan in the crowd who inevitably shouted "Free Bird!" during the show.

Now let's talk setlists! So far each night has welcomed an average of 26 songs per night, give or take one or two depending on Mayer's execution strategy. Thankfully, he mingles around with his seven studio albums throughout the night. That way everyone gets a chance to hear at least one track from their favorite album.

Fans who were lucky enough to snag tickets to Mayer's second date at New York City's Madison Square Garden got the ultimate treat of a lifetime. During the second set of his performance, Mayer surprised fans by performing his third album Continuum in its entirety!

In addition to semi-routinely performed tracks like "Helpless," "Rosie," and "I Guess I Just Feel Like," Mayer has managed to give a fans a few different surprises -- even granting a fan requested track from 2009's Battle Studies.

During the first set of his July 28th show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mayer brought back Battle Studies deep-cut "Friends, Lovers, or Nothing," which had not been performed since 2013. For those who lean more toward this album (like myself) you will be pleasantly surprised that Mayer has performed more hits from this album than before, giving audiences tracks like "Heartbreak Warfare," "Edge of Desire," and "Who Says," among others.

Mayer's most recent in show in Toronto, Ontario also welcomed "fewest repeats as possible" including Paradise Valley tracks "Dear Marie" and "Paper Doll" during the first set. In addition, Mayer also resurfaced Heavier Things b-side "Wheel" as part of the closing encore! The track had not been performed since 2017.
