Mark Knopfler kicked off the North American leg of his Down the Road Wherever tour, in support of his latest, 9th solo album of the same name, last night (August 16) at the Grand Theater in Manshantucket, Connecticut.
He pulled out the same 15 song setlist, equipped with a double encore, that he provided in Europe. He opened the night up with "Why Aye Man" and closed the main set with "Speedway at Nazareth," performing in between a set that showed off both his solo career, and his time with Dire Straits.
He performed the same Dire Straits song he's delivered all year long - "Once Upon a Time in the West," "Romeo and Juliet," "Your Latest Trick," "On Every Street," and then during the first encore, "Money for Nothing."
The second encore and official show closer was a thematic version of "Going Home: Theme From Local Hero." The only thing he left off of the setlist last night was "She's Gone," but perhaps he'll add it back on or swap it out for a different cut as the rest of the tour moves along.
