Cheap Trick Kickoff First Dates of 2019 Tour Without ZZ Top

1969 truly has proven that it was the golden era that birthed some of the music world's most iconic acts. One of which happens to be ZZ Top which appropriately ushers in their 50th anniversary tour! Originally kicking off on August 16th, ZZ Top has welcomed fellow rock legends Cheap Trick and Bad Company for the celebratory golden anniversary tour.

Unfortunately, they had to cancel their first four dates of the tour, causing Cheap Trick to headline the kickoff dates. ZZ Top will rejoin on August 21st in Woodinville, Washington. The reason for cancelling is because drummer Frank Beard contradicted pneumonia.

“He apparently came down with the ailment while on the band’s just completed tour of Europe and, upon his return home, was advised by his physician to rest and recuperate,” a spokesperson from LiveNation said.

Here's what you can expect when they rejoin the tour though!

While ZZ Top have managed to make it to 50 years of rocking around the world, they also continue to bring out all their classic hits that audiences continue to request. So far in 2019, the Houston-native rockers have brought out singles like "Gimme All Your Lovin," "Jesus Just Left Chicago," and "Waitin' for the Bus" -- all of which have a total of 34 live plays! (Thanks to Setlist.fm analytics, of course).

For those of you who count on the anthems of ZZ Top, look no further than the inclusion of fan-favorites like "La Grange" and "Legs" during their 50th anniversary set. Both tracks have even been played 32 times live this year alone! The southern rock three-piece also squeezes in covers of Merle Travis' "Sixteen Tons" and "I Thank You" by Sam & Dave

While Cheap Trick takes the reins for these first four dates - here's how they've been kicking things out. The Illinois-native rockers maintain a powerhouse of hits throughout their setlists each night.

Along with bonafide hits "California Man" and "She's Tight," Cheap Trick pack their greatest (and most live-played) tracks all into one setlist. Other tracks include staple hits like "Dream Police," "Surrender," "I Want You To Want Me," and "Goodnight Now," which happens to be the very last track performed in the setlist. All four tracks have been performed live a total of 45 times this year, which guarantees they'll be performed live in a city near you!
