RIP Peter Green - See Fleetwood Mac's First Concert in 1967

Over the weekend, the music world lost another great rock legend, Peter Green. The British musician and Fleetwood Mac co-founder was found dead at age 73 on July 25th, 2020.

In 1967, Green formed Fleetwood Mac with Mick Fleetwood. During his short time with the band, he wrote some of the most influential songs in the band's career like "Black Magic Woman," "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)," and "Man of the World."

He is also accredited as a major figure in the "second great epoch" of the British blues movement. His guitar playing has been praised by the likes of B.B. King and Eric Clapton.

In memory of Peter Green, we're looking back at Fleetwood Mac's very first set they ever played at the Windsor National Jazz & Blues Festival on August 13th, 1967.

During this time, FM was mainly performing blues covers and originals written by Green. The festival took place at the Royal Windsor Racecourse and it featured 7 songs.

This particular set featured three Elmore James covers, including set opener "Talk to Me Baby" and set closer "Shake Your Moneymaker." They played four originals, including "I'm Going Home" and "Fleetwood Mac," which have been performed only that ONE time, according to our setlist.fm archives.

Soon after this performance, everything came up roses for FM. They released their first three albums with Green before he departed the band for good in 1970.

“I want to change my whole life, really, because I don’t want to be at all a part of the conditioned world, and as much as possible, I am getting out of it." - Green.

Green released six solo albums afterward, with 1983's Kolors being the last. Since his passing, the tributes have been pouring in, including one by Stevie Nicks, who noted that her biggest regret was never getting the chance to share the stage with the legend.
