Iggy Pop Still the Godfather of Punk - See 2019 Festival Setlists

The punkest man alive is 72 years old. Iggy Pop continues to transcend age and time as he takes on 2019 with a new album on the way, and festival sets that outshine most of the newer acts on the bill.

In April he strutted his stuff down under in good ol' Australia. In June he shimmied his way over to Europe and has been topping festival bills all over the continent. In this month alone he's hit up Mad Cool Fest, Stimmen Fest, Les Viellies Charrues, and just the other night, July 24th, he rocked Hungary at Budapest Park

Each night he's been ensuring fans have a grand time with setlists that boast 20-21 songs. The setlist this season has so far remained the same, equipped with about nine Stooges songs including "I Wanna be Your Dog," "Search and Destroy," "T.V. Eye," and "No Fun," among others.

He doesn't shy away from his fan-favorite solo hits either, making sure to perform songs like "The Passenger," "Lust for Life," and "Nightclubbing" each night. He normally ends on two covers The Dee Jays "Real Wild Child (Wild Ones)" and "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

We have yet to hear any live versions of the new material off his forthcoming album, Free, which was just announced a week ago. You can listen to the title track below, though.

"Free"

The album is slated to drop September 6th. He described it in an statement:

“By the end of the tours following Post Pop Depression, I felt sure that I had rid myself of the problem of chronic insecurity that had dogged my life and career for too long. But I also felt drained. And I felt like I wanted to put on shades, turn my back, and walk away. I wanted to be free. I know that’s an illusion, and that freedom is only something you feel, but I have lived my life thus far in the belief that that feeling is all that is worth pursuing; all that you need—not happiness or love necessarily, but the feeling of being free. So this album just kind of happened to me, and I let it happen.”

While Iggy is officially performing around Europe - we are patiently awaiting for his to announce Free's support tour! Keep tabs on Iggypop.com.
