Paul McCartney Releases Two New Singles, Announces New Album

The former Beatle is back! It has been five years but we're on the verge of a new Paul McCartney album and TODAY he released two new songs to tease. Egypt Station will be Sir Paul's follow up to 2013's New. He certainly hasn't been idling in the dark these past few years though. In 2015, the legend had young Kanye West fans perplexed as they wondered who this "mans" was, as he collaborated on the West and Rihanna single "FourFiveSeconds." The youth don't even realize...

Well the legend is back now with a very rockin' seventeenth studio album, due out September 7th. The two singles that were released today in anticipation of Egypt Station includes the soulful ballad "I Don't Know" and the raucous, foot-stomping track "Come On to Me." Both are wholesomely Paul-like but still completely evolved. You don't need to be into classic rock to enjoy the tunes. Ok, maybe just a little.

Egypt Station comes from the name of one of McCartney's paintings (yes, he's an artist too.) He states:

“I liked the words ‘Egypt Station.’ It reminded me of the ‘album’ albums we used to make.., Egypt Station starts off at the station on the first song and then each song is like a different station. So it gave us some idea to base all the songs around that. I think of it as a dream location that the music emanates from.”

The LP sounds like it might venture into concept-album territory, describing it as a “a unique travelogue vibe.” The album will open and close on two instrumental tracks, taking you on a seamless journey in-between. Below you can listen to the two new singles, which differ considerably in tempos and definitely feel like you're landing on two different "stations."

"The result is a kaleidoscopic journey through myriad musical locales and eras, yet firmly rooted in the here and now–with Paul’s singular unmistakeable melodic sensibility serving as a guide."

McCartney is slated to headline Austin City Limits Music Festival this year, which will take place over two weekends: October 5th through 7th, and 12th through 14th. This will be his first major show since 2017's "One on One" tour, which had the singer performing a bevy of Beatles cuts across a 40-song setlist. We can't wait to see what Sir Paul will do with these new songs in a live setting. Patience is a virtue!
