Quarantini Hour: Atreyu's Travis Miguel on Music, Duolingo + More

Metalcore rockers Atreyu recently dropped the official music video for "Super Hero," lifted from the bands 2018 album In Our Wake. The song features Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows and Underoath drummer/vocalist, Aaron Gillespie.

Watch the video for "Super Hero" below.

Atreyu guitarist Travis Miguel joins us for setlist.fm's Quarantini Hour. The rocker fills us in on how he's spending his time during the pandemic, from TV to podcasts, music and more.

How have you guys been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic?

Fortunately, Atreyu didn’t have any extensive touring booked during this pandemic, so we lucked out on that end. We did have some summer fests and a show in Malaysia cancelled, so that’s a bummer. Our recording schedule for our new album got thrown out of whack a bit as well.

Paint us a picture of your current headquarters.

It’s just my wife, our cat, and I in our household so things are pretty mellow and quiet around here.

What activities have you been doing to keep yourself busy?

I’ve been playing a lot more guitar lately. More than I have in a long while really. I do music outside of Atreyu as well so I’ve been trying to stay busy with that. I’ve been trying to stay as physically active as I can at home. I’m not a gym rat or anything but makeshift home workouts kinda suck, and ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Video games are a good time killer as well. I’ve also started to learn how to speak Brazilian Portuguese through the Duolingo app for no other reason than sheer boredom.

What movies and TV have you been watching?

Luckily this pandemic happened during a time when there is no shortage of entertainment available. I’ve been watching a lot of Star Wars related stuff (I’m a self admitted Star Wars nerd). I started watching After Life with Ricky Gervais. which I’ve enjoyed so far. Good Time with Robert Pattinson was really good too.

What music or podcasts have you been listening to?

As far as music goes, I’m all over the place. Lately I’ve been listening to Head Wound City, Petbrick, Hobo Johnson, FKA Twigs, Johnny Booth, Torche, The Body, Telomere, Cigarettes After Sex, Yob, to name a few. The ID10T, WTF, JRE, and Last Podcast On The Left podcasts are my usual go-tos.

Are you planning on tuning into or producing any livestream performances?

I haven’t done any livestream performances yet. I joined our drummer on his Twitch livestream the other day which was fun.

How can fans support you in this time of tour postponements and social distancing?

All bands and artists (and everyone who works with them) are hurting because of the pandemic, so we’ve all had to get creative and think of new ways to stay active. So pay attention to what your favorite artists have going on, whether it’s exclusive merch, livestream events, contests, etc, try to participate in any way you can.

What’s your best song for getting through a scary/confusing time?

Anything by The Police usually brightens up my mood.

What are a few of your best songs for an at-home workout playlist?

Any late 90’s/early 2000’s punk/hardcore usually gets the job done.

Where can fans get the latest info and updates from you?

I use Instagram the most so check out @travismiguel, @atreyuofficial and @fakefigures.
