Highlights: Neil Young + Promise of the Real 2019 Spring Setlists

Neil Young has been on the road for the last two weeks, and this past week he performed three shows with his rockin' band Promise of the Real, which features Willie Nelson's sons Lukas and Micah.

The shows kicked off with two back-to-back dates on May 20 and 21 at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle. The May 20th show started off with Neil Young doing a solo set of songs both classic and new. Here's what he played:

  • "After the Gold Rush"
  • "Green Is Blue"
  • "Comes a Time"
  • "Mother Earth (Natural Anthem)"

Now enter Promise of the Real. Together they started the night off with Young's "Human Highway" and continued on with a setlist full of Neil Young Staples. They even busted out Young's protest song "Alabama," which is wildly appropriate and fitting during these trying times.

They continued on with other Young anthems like "Winterlong," "Walk On," and Crazy Horse gems like "Powderfinger," "Everybody Knows this is Nowhere," and "Love & Only Love." In between they brought out a couple new songs that Young tested out during his solo stint the week before.

The main set ended on the beloved "Rockin' in the Free World." They encored with two songs, rounded out the entire setlist to a whopping 20 songs.

On the second night, Young once again started solo, adding two more songs to that set - "Olden Days" and the newer track "Think of Me." The Promise of the Real set in turn had two fewer songs. They changed it up a bit by adding an OG Lukas Nelson + POTR track "Turn Off the News (Build a Garden)" which was sung by Lukas.

Micah in also had his turn in the spotlight when he took on the lead vocals of "Everything is Bullshit," an original track by the band.

During "Rockin' in the Free World" they sang "Happy Birthday" to drummer Anthony LoGerfo.

Last night, May 23, they brought their show to Eugene, Oregon with a 23-song setlist. Uncle Neil did five solo songs this time around and the POTR set was hefty. They added on songs like "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," "Words (Between the Lines of Age,)" "Like an Inca," "Fuckin' Up," "Love to Burn," and "Cortez the Killer."
