Tour Update: Cold War Kids

A little over a month ago, indie mainstays Cold War Kids released their very first live album. Audience was recorded live September 24th, 2017 in Athens, Georgia. During their supporting tour for this album, we got the chance to chat with frontman Nathan Willet and drummer Matt Maust. The guys revealed that although they record mostly all of their shows, and have being doing so for awhile now--this one has that special spark.
Cold War Kids Explains The Birth of Their Live Album, 'Audience'
Nate: “There was this one show we played in Athens, Georgia that just was--we had been on tour forever opening for Young The Giant, we had a handful of club shows in between that were like our own thing—and there was this one show that, during it, I just thought ‘If everything is technically right about the recording of this, this is the funnest show ever.’ This one show felt so good I just knew, ‘I wanna use this whole show if I can.’ It was just the set we were playing at the time. We left off a couple songs but for the most part it was just the show, start to finish.”
Maust: “Most of the shows we were opening for Young The Giant but this was our own club show and I felt like we were kind of out of our cage for a second—we could’ve played for 3 hours if we wanted to. It was a really long show, I remember.”

Nate: “And there’s always an energy, every night is a different energy and this felt like the kind of crowd that… there was just that frenzy, that energy that felt kind of wild and felt like people were… I don’t know, just hyped."
Bravo, Athens. You made music history.
Cold War Kids will play Hangout Fest this Friday, May 18th in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
