Single Release: BABYMETAL’S “Distortion”

Kawaii metal J-pop band BABYMETAL recently released a new track (May 7) and it’s fire…. literally. “Distortion” opens with a heavy beat followed by intense vocals. BABYMETAL truly embodies their name in this song because the heavy beat clashes with their angelic voices, which molds perfectly together.

With this new track, BABYMETAL are welcoming their new dark era. A press release (via Exclaim) went into detail describing the BABYMETAL track.“On April 1, known as ‘Fox Day,’ a new prophecy was revealed,” explains a press statement. “The prophecy revealed that up until now we have only experienced the Light Side and there exists an unknown Dark Side, a legend of seven metal spirits The Chosen Seven. ‘Distortion’ explores the unrevealed Dark Side, the Apocrypha, the legend of seven metal spirits in which power is distorted through time and space.”

On Tuesday (May 8,) BABYMETAL fans had the chance to hear this track live during the kickoff of BABYMETAL’S 2018 world tour in Kansas City. Unfortunately, Yuimetal, one of the band’s original member was not present. That didn’t stop members Su-metal and Moametal from performing. The duo performed a new lineup with two backup dancers.

The music video for “Distortion,” includes masked creatures and rock monsters. Like the song, the video is intense. The track is available on digital platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
