Work From Home with CYN on TikTok, New Music, and Influences
Typical Day For CYN:
"I'm forcing myself to wake up at a proper time. Literally forcing. I'm answering emails and having phone calls and doing interviews and recording myself from home. But also, taking a lot of time to get creative with how to talk to my audience through the internet. Normally, I'm a lot more nervous about posting and whatever, but this has really forced me to come out of my shell and be myself more than ever.
Discovering new music:
"This is the weirdest thing to say, but I really don't watch TV or movies. I discovered a song recently from Tik Tok that I think is really special. I totally get why artists and labels are considering it a priority. I was even thinking about, before all this happened, taking 'Drinks' to radio and doing a whole radio promo thing and they were asking my label how it was doing on TikTok. So, I think that's really interesting that the radio is now concerned with "Well, are we gonna add this song? How well is it doing on Tik Tok?" Like that is insane."
Current Projects:
"Before all this happened I had a really good chunk of demos. Maybe like 15 or 20 demos that I'm considering for my next project. When I do sit down and write another song I'm hoping to think about the way that I feel during all of this and really write down what's going on throughout the world and touch on that. The reason why certain songs are popular, like ride to the top, is because for whatever reason people think they reflect current culture and climate. So, releasing a song about going to a club is hard to do. Maybe a song about looking out a window would be appropriate right now. That actually sounds really beautiful maybe I'll write it."
Childhood Influences:
"I definitely saw Taylor Swift when I was growing up. I saw Katy Perry. I remember I would just cry standing there."
Discovered by Katy Perry:
"I am signed to her record label. She helps me with basically everything and is constantly guiding me and letting me know her very experienced opinion. When I take an idea to my label and I think 'This is a crazy idea they're not gonna get it.' I always think what did Katy say when she said I want someone dancing in a shark costume. So I just think there is never a stupid idea because it might look incredible but sound really questionable. Do it anyway."
