Marília Mendonça Breaks Livestream Record With 3 Hour Show

Yesterday, Brazilian singer Marília Mendonça broadcasted a live stream on her YouTube channel as in-home entertainment to fans in quarantine. She performed for nearly three and a half hours, which also broke records for the number of live stream views. The singer hit 3 million viewers as she performed. As of today, the live stream has garnered over 46 million views. The exclusive webcast was live straight from Mendonça’s home in Brazil.

The webcast fundraised donations for Mesa Brasil Sesc, which is a national web of food banks against hunger and waste. Mendonça raised over 225 tons of food, 3,600 liters of soda, two tons of cleaning products and other materials in donations for needy families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While there were initial technical difficulties with the live stream, Mendonça kicked it off with her classic “Bebi Liguei.” She took suggestions from fans and artists throughout the duration of the stream, including requests from Sabrina Sato, Neymar, actress Cléo Pires and even priest Fábio de Melo, among many other notable figures. Mendonça dished out over 50 songs over those three hours.

She performed a number of songs from her extensive discography, including tracks such as “Como Faz Com Ela,” “Sem Sal,” “Gravetos” and “Tentatives.” The project, referred to as Live on the Sofa, was promoted by Sesc Goiás and Fecomércio. Mendonça exchanged a lot of banter with fans and colleagues. She sang mostly with the playback from her songs and provided a genuine, informal presentation of many of her staple hits. The Minister of Health, Luiz Henrique Mandetta thanked the singer during a press conference. He commended her for promoting the avoidance of crowds and expressed his own gratitude for her work.
