Drake Wraps Up European "Assassination Vacation" Tour

Drake has just touched down from his "Assassination Vacation" tour which ventured around Europe over the last two months. The tour acts as the European leg of his North American "Aubrey & The Three Migos" tour, which - according to Forbes - grossed $79 million.

The show's mega-production poses challenges on the road (like transporting a life-sized flying Ferrari across borders), which makes it difficult to pull out stops at every city. On "Assassination Vacation," Drake only had seven cities in his crosshairs, but performed 23 times. A whopping seven of those nights took place at London's O2 Arena - or as Drake deems it: the O3.

The arena actually changed it's name for the seven-night run of sold-out shows:

The Toronto rapper's trek across Europe was assisted by openers: Baka Not Nice, Tory Lanez, and Radio 1 DJ Tiffany Calver. Drake is notably fond of a range of European and particularly British artists, and made sure to invite many to share his stage.

UK-based acts like Lethal Bizzle, Afro B, Dave, Giggs, and WizKid all made surprise appearances. One that was especially monumental was British-Nigerian artist J Hus, who made his return to the main stage only hours after being released from jail.

London-homage aside, Drake also surprised fans with an appearance from frequent collaborator, Future. The two even teased the possibility of a sequel to their 2015 joint-album What A Time To Be Alive.

The surprise that caught the most buzz was undoubtedly J. Cole's performance at the O2 in London. The last time the two were seen together was at Drake's headlining slot at Austin City Limits Music Festival in 2015, where J. Cole was brought out as a surprise guest.

Drake has been dropping hints about new music being in the works, but he raised the stakes when he announced that he and Cole might be soon reuniting on a track.

Drake shares a heart-to-heart with J. Cole onstage in London:

"I can't wait to make some new music with you. I know we been working. I can't wait to let these people hear it."

Last night's closing performance in Amsterdam marked the 75th show across Drizzy's North American and European tours - a tremendous feat for any artist. Reflecting on the journey, Drake posted the following caption to his Instagram:

"75 shows. Line em up and we’ll knock em down. Thank you to the whole team and anyone who came out to share the moments. Is the studio open?"

Drake has never been one to vacate the spotlight for long, so stay tuned for some of this new music he's been so actively teasing. Check out his guest-appearance on Tiffany Calver's 1Xtra show, where he discusses touring and new music, and stay tuned to Setlist.fm for more Drake news as it unfolds.
