Elvis Presley Released His Debut Studio Album On This Day in 1956

64 years ago, cultural icon Elvis Presley put out his self-titled, debut studio album on this day in 1956. Released by RCA Victor, there was also a special edition released in the United Kingdom titled Elvis Presley Rock n’ Roll, which includes six different songs. Many of his original hits from the 50s and onward have made their own ways into other artists’ setlists as cover songs.

Elvis’ 12-track studio album lasted ten weeks as number 1 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, which was the first rock and roll album to ever do so. In 2003, Rolling Stone declared the album one of the 500 greatest albums of all time, ranking it at number 56. In addition to topping charts, the record received numerous accolades in reference books and the entertainment industry, and became certified Gold in 1966 by the Recording Industry Association of America. It was the first rock and roll album to be a million-selling record.

Many tracks off the record did not get to see the stage, however, but the few who did have been memorable performances. Check out our setlist stats and see which tracks have made it into a live setting and which ones have (sadly) not!
