The Cure Headline Rock on The Lawns Festival in South Africa

With festival season officially in full swing, British post-punk legends The Cure have officially kicked off 2019 headlining Rock on The Lawns music festival. The two-day event takes place on March 16th and 21st in both Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa to crowds gathering in the thousands.

Being the first shows of the year for Robert Smith & Co., the band's setlist for their headlining performances highlights major hits and fan-favorite tracks that keep everyone on their feet the whole evening. Among the hits played are "Lovesong," "Just Like Heaven," and "In Between Days," among many others.

The Cure kick off their set with Disintegration hit "Plainsong" before moving into the breezy crowd-pleaser "Pictures of You." The set is also accompanied by a 15-track encore that marks its start with 1994's "Burn," which you may remember from The Crow that came out the same year.

The latter of their greatest hits tend to fall in the second half of the show as they play "Friday I'm In Love," "Close To Me," "Why Can't I Be You?," and "Boys Don't Cry" all back-to-back. More fan-favorite hits like "A Forest," "Lullaby," and "A Strange Day" also found themselves sprinkled throughout the official setlist.

In celebration of their live shows, lead singer Robert Smith has officially confirmed that their first albums in 10 years is almost ready! Smith even adds even more excitement when he reveals it's their most "Cure" sounding album to date.

"We’ve enjoyed [the shows] and we’ve just recorded a new album for the first time in 10 years,” Smith said, adding, “We cover different styles of music, but because it’s us doing it, it sounds like us," he said.

The still-unnamed album has yet to be given a release date, but to compensate for the time we wait, The Cure has a slew of remaining show dates this year to help fans get prepared for the new music!
