SXSW Setlist History: Iggy and the Stooges at The Mohawk 2013

2013 was an exciting year for Stooges fans, because Iggy Pop and the Stooges were gearing up to release their first album in six years, Ready to Die.

Just like they did in 2007 when the previous album came out, the legendary proto-punk act set out to SXSW to perform a wild set that included new song debuts - and SXSW is the perfect playground to do just THAT.

On this day six years ago, Iggy and the Stooges rocked the 21st edition of SXSW at the at Mohawk for the House of Vans showcase. The Stooges took their positions on the stage - Toby Dammit, Scott Asheton, James Williamson, Mike Watt, and Steve Mackay on sax - before a shirtless and iconic Iggy Pop came running out going full swing in 1973's "Raw Power."

Iggy impressed the lucky attendees as he jerked and twisted his body while looming over the crowd like the perfect maniac. The set was fired off with plenty of familiar classics like "Gimmie Danger," "The 1970," "I Wanna Be You Dog," "Search & Destroy," and "No Fun."

They also took advantage of the SXSW platform to test out new tunes. The Stooges first perform Ready to Die's single "Burn," which Iggy says is about “scary sh*t like the flaming as*holes of the world, and death.”

They also ran through "Gun," "Beat That Guy," "Sex and Money," "Job," "Dirty Deal," "The Departed," "Ready to Die," and live debuted "DD's"! They also did an encore, ending to hoots and howls from the crowd as they performed "Fun House."

Since 2013, two members of the band sadly passed - Asheton and Mackay. Ready to Die was the bands last album together, and they officially broke up in 2016.

For now, Iggy does his own thing, his last album was 2016's Post Pop Depression. His last performance was back in October at California Jam 2018. He's got some shows coming up this year in Australia and Europe. Check out all the info on the official Iggy Pop website!
