Punk Pioneers Patti Smith and Iggy Pop Play Tibet House Benefit

New York City's Carnegie Hall was a holy house of punk, rock, art and musical treats last night, February 26th, as several artists performed at the 33rd annual Tibet House Benefit, the nonprofit educational institution and cultural embassy founded by the Dalai Lama.

The long-running benefit concert was curated and led by Philip Glass, and graced by the likes of Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Matt Berninger of The National, Laurie Anderson, Phoebe Bridgers, Sandra Oh, Margo Price, Bettye LaVette, Tenzin Choegyal and Resistance Revival Chorus.

Each artist performed between 1-3 songs that ranged from original tracks, covers, and new singles. Check out our favorite sets below!

Matt Berninger

The National frontman was the 4th (out of 10) performer and he played a three song set. The first song was "Walking On a String" which Phoebe Bridgers, who also plays on the song, joined in on. He ended the set with a Mercury Rev cover.

The rising singer-songwriter performed two songs ahead of Berninger, included a live debut of her brand new song "Garden Song."

The Tibetan artist performed his song "Snow Lion" with Philip Glass.

Legendary soul singer LaVette performed a three song set of covers, performing beautiful renditions of classics by Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Ray Charles. See the setlist below.

Punk pioneer Iggy Pop strutted his stuff with a two-song set that included a version of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" with avant-garde angel Laurie Anderson.

The country star performed a touching three song set that ended with her song "All American Made" being backed by the Patti Smith Band!

As the last act of the night, the iconic punk trailblazer performed three songs which concluded with a performance of her of "People Have the Power," all 10 acts from the night joined in!
