Garth Brooks Performs 31-Songs for First 2020 Stadium Show!

Garth Brooks led a momentous stadium show this weekend (February 22) at the Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The show sold over 70,000 tickets, marking it as the largest performance at the stadium. He’s had numerous sold-out shows for The Garth Brooks Stadium Tour, with 75,000 to 80,000 tickets being sold at each show.

The country singer played a 19-song setlist + a whopping 12 encore performance, making that a total of 31 songs in one night. The setlist consisted of classic hits from his three-decade discography, including “The Beaches of Cheyenne,” “The River,” “Unanswered Prayers” and “The Thunder Rolls,” among many other iconic tracks. Brooks also sported a Barry Sanders Detroit Lions jersey. The crowd chanted the former football player’s name and let Brooks honor him. “I was lucky enough to be an athlete and to wear the same uniform as this guy wore in college. I was lucky to go to school with him,” he said. “You guys got the greatest player in NFL history in my opinion in this jersey. I love this man.”

The show began with an anticipatory countdown to the singer’s appearance. When he got on stage, he opened the show with “All Day Long,” which was the first single from Brooks’ forthcoming album, Fun. Though the album was originally slated to be released in 2018, Brooks confirmed that it is set to come out on March 1.

When opening up about his music legacy with NBC affiliates, the singer noted his emotional journey with fans.

“You can have 300 people at a dive bar singing 'Unanswered Prayers,' but when 70,000 of them are singing 'Unanswered Prayers' with that same intensity ... I mean it's like, there's something that just goes through you and you think that as a grown man you get used to it but I just stand there trying not to cry,” Brooks said.

Brooks also graced the audience with five covers in the main set. He included performances of Dennis Robbins’ “Two of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House,” The Oak Ridge Boys’ “Callin’ Baton Rouge” and “Shameless” by Billy Joel. During the encore, he fired off with a cover of Billy Joel’s emblematic “Piano Man” before jumping into Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love” later on.

Brooks took the personal request of a young girl in the front row to play “People Loving People,” which he included in the slew of encore performances he did that night. The track was immediately followed by “In Lonesome Dove,” “Wrapped Up in You,” “Mom,” “When You Come Back to Me Again” and “Ireland” before closing with “Standing Outside the Fire.”
