Chris Cornell Tribute Highlights: From Miley Cyrus to Metallica

Last night, several big name artists spent five hours at The Forum in Los Angeles to pay tribute to the late and great rock legend, Chris Cornell, with an all-out concert. The concert was organized by Cornell's widow, Vicky and dubbed “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell."

It featured 42 distinct performances and with a plethora of surprise guests. Members of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, Foo Fighters, Metallica, plus Josh Homme, Fiona Apple, and Brandi Carlile were all on deck.

Jimmy Kimmel served as the MC for the night, keeping the mood light. Before the sets kicked off, all three surviving members of Soundgarden addressed the fans.

“When the idea of a tribute concert for my friend Chris Cornell was presented to me, I was torn,” drummer Matt Cameron said.

“I didn’t feel like I had the strength required to pull it off. So I went back to the music. I heard his voice, and I found my strength. … Chris is here with us tonight. He has the best seat in the house.”

The night started off with the Melvins who performed a six-song set that kicked off with "The Kicking Machine" and ended with a cover of Soundgarden's "Spoonman." See that setlist below:

Other notable performances from the night included:

- Ryan Adams did a take on Cornell's "Dead Wishes" and Soundgarden's "Fell on Black Days"

- Foo Fighters delivered a four-song performance that fired off with Soundgarden's "No Attention" and ended on the somber acoustic version of "Everlong," where there was a spotlight on an empty part of the stage. *Sniffs*

The most tearjerking moment of the night came when Cornell's 14-year-old daughter, Toni, sang Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" with help from Ziggy Marley. Watch below and grab a box of tissues before hitting play.

The night came to a wholesome end with a performance by Soundgarden. This marked the first time that members Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd, and Matt Cameron shared the stage together since Cornell’s passing.

Taylor Momsen sang the lead with the band on three songs. Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins took the lead on two cuts with Melvins' Buzz Osbourne: “I Awake” and “The Day I Tried to Live." Other singing duties were assigned to Marcus Durant, and the set ended with Brandi Carlile and Peter Frampton taking the reins for "Black Hole Sun."

Many of Cornell's friends were there to pay their respects: including Brad Pitt, Josh Brolin, Courtney Cox, Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks and others.

While Cornell's remarkable, four-octave vocal range and his physical being weren't present, the essence of it was.
