The set lists for the band Tesla seem to be listing their song “Little Suzi” off of their debut album Mechanical Resonance as a cover song by Ph.D.

I found the song on MusicBrainz here, listed as a Tesla song: http://musicbrainz.org/recording/0a8b06f4-d98c-4bb7-bf3a-20510b70c568/details

Wikipedia lists it as cover, also the composers are members of Ph.D. see the wikipedia entry

I stand corrected about the composer of Little Suzi.

However, since the band Tesla recorded the song on their album Mechanical Resonance, is the site able to attribute Little Suzi to said album in the “Songs on Albums” statistics?

Unfortunately this is one of the cases the site can't handle (yet), sorry.

Okay, thanks.

I was just confused how covers were handled, because I've also seen them attributed to the album by an artist. For example, see Dwight Yoakam's set list I entered for the Indian Ranch (http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/dwight-yoakam/2011/indian-ranch-webster-ma-1bd0f990.html)

The album Dwight Sings Buck are all Buck Owens songs, but in this case the site attributed them to the album.

We can let this thread die. Just wanted to let you know why I was curious.

This is because the songs aren't attributed with the cover tag. According to the Guidelines this is wrong. They should be attributed with @Cover[Buck Owens] although the album would then drop out of the statistics.

Okay. But for the fan wanting to know which album these songs could be purchased on, that would be a dis-service.

True. But it's important to be consistent as otherwise the statistics for the Buck Owen songs (and for the cover artist stats) would be incorrect. E.g. imagine the fan wanting to know which artists cover Buck Owens's songs.

Got it. Thanks for the conversation.

Is setlist.fm thinking about allowing both in the statistics ? The @Cover-Tag would keep the Cover-statistics right and the song will additionally stay with the right album.

I understand that these covered songs would show up twice in the statistics normally then, but maybe that would be a better solution for all this.

I would appreciate a counting in both statistics.

That really would be great but it's not as easy as it sounds. It certainly is on our list but considering the fact that it is a rare case (I know any of us can come up with a lot of examples, but it's still a rare case if you look at the numbers), there are a lot things that got a higher priority. So for the time being, please stick to the guidelines.

The song Soulshine by Warren Haynes has been incorrectly credited to Larry McCray under both The Allman Brothers and Gov't Mule. How can he cover a song that he wrote?? Here's a wikipedia page stating that it's his song:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soulshine_%28song%29

Can someone batch edit that so it's correct please?

“Soulshine” was originally recorded and released by bluesman Larry McCray on the 1993 album “Delta Hurricane,” with permission from Warren Haynes.

That does NOT mean he wrote the song. The person who gets the credit is the person who wrote the song. It says Warren Haynes let him cover the song. That doesn't mean Larry McCray wrote it. It would be kind of silly to incorrectly change intoformation on the site just to boost your numbers.

Nobody says Larry McCray wrote the song, he was the first to record and release it. The guidelines at setlist.fm say the cover-tag has to be set for the artist who released the song first no matter who wrote it.

Of course that may lead to some confusion over some songs because like you mentioned, it sounds silly for an artist, having his own song covered, but as long we don't have an information for each song like “written/composed by Warren Haynes, first released by Larry McCray” we have to hold on to a rule according to the guidelines.

Anyway I have a list of songs of “hard cases” like this one so it doesn't get forgotten.

And doing mass edits won't boost any numbers of mine, they count like zero edit…
