Context:
In 2013 the band Primus released an album entitled “Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble”, which comprised a re-imagined version of the Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory soundtrack. This included everything from songs like “The Candy Man” and “Pure Imagination” to the musical lock at the factory entrance (arranged for guitar as the 5-second “Lermaninoff”). The band went on tour for the album, playing it in full throughout.

The problem is, on the band's stat page (link) there's confusion over whether to put these as originals or covers. Some cases are straightforward (Pure Imagination, for instance, is clearly a cover, and Lermaninoff can't really be counted as one), but others, such as the Oompa-Loompa segments, are inconsistent at times. How should we describe these?

These would be reinterpretations of the originals. Therefore making them originals themselves. Specifically because it is an entire album. A concept album yes, but this is similar to a “remix” album in that sense. I would say they are not considered covers simply because of it being an entire concept album.

We get our song information from musicbrainz.org. The songs are all credited to the original artists on that website and not credited as Primus originals.
